From Grape to Glass

JUAN & JUAN ON FOOD, ART, AND RATINGS

Chefs and winemakers have a lot in common. But winemakers get one chance a year to get it right.

JUAN & JUAN ON HIGH TECH

How can high-flying drones help grow the perfect grapes? Juan & Juan explain.

JUAN & JUAN ON HANDS ON

At Columbia Crest, hand-stirring matters. No matter how many barrels. Wait, how many!?!

JUAN & JUAN ON SPRING BREAK

Springtime in the vineyard gets crazy busy for Juan Uribe. Juan Munoz-Oca, not so much.

JUAN & JUAN ON STAYING CLOSE

Does it really matter if a winery sits right next to its vineyard? Juan & Juan sure seem to think so.

JUAN & JUAN ON EXCUSES

There are plenty of ways to dodge blame if your wine isn’t well received. But Juan Uribe knows where to point the finger.

JUAN & JUAN ON VACUUMS AND GRAVITY

The easy way isn’t the Columbia Crest way. Find out why we use gravity instead of suction to move wine between barrels.

JUAN & JUAN ON ACTING SMALL

Don’t let the size of our winery, or Juan Muñoz-Oca, fool you: we’ve created wine with the same care and craft since 1982.

JUAN & JUAN ON EGGS AND TULIPS

What in the world do eggs and tulips have to do with making wine? Juan Uribe is curious as well.

JUAN & JUAN ON WINE TASTING

With Juan & Juan, wine tasting gets slightly more involved than simply swirling a glass and taking a sip.

Keepers of the Crest.
Guardians of the Vine.

Juan Muñoz-Oca

HEAD WINEMAKER

Raised in Mendoza, Argentina, Juan inherited his lifelong passion for wine from his grandfather, a cellar master at Bodegas Toso winery (Juan picked his first grapes at age eight). For the last 13 years, he’s been at Columbia Crest crafting some of the most highly-acclaimed wines ever produced in Washington, including the 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon named “Wine of the Year” in 2009 by Wine Spectator magazine.
